“And right now, this off season, for the first time ever, The Cheetah is all the way turned up and locked in” - Tyreek Hill, after being cut by the Dolphins, carrying on a strong tradition of WR1 energy

🎙 Leading Off

Entirely musings today. Follow me:

- You’re probably asking yourself: KMARK, Winter Olympics? Yes, my friend. I haven’t watched nearly enough but I enjoy the trailing drone angles of the downhill skiing action. I 100% do not ski myself but I appreciate just how fast these men and women are womping down a mountain. Very chill. I like any and all Olympic sports that don’t have judges. Having some pencilnecks lord over apex athletics to determine a winner doesn’t sit right with me. I prefer a gold medal settled on the field, or mountain, or ice, or track with nothing more than a stopwatch.

- I didn’t watch the All-Star game. I feel absolutely zero-guilt. And I don’t care if it was “good”. It’s dead and gone and been dead and gone for years. Wemby isn’t reviving it. I couldn’t even describe the format if you asked me. Reports indicate that Wemby (and others) rescued the game and that’s honestly the worst thing that could’ve happened. Had Sunday’s exhibition fallen as flat as the dunk contest, then we’d be spared this embarrassment next year. I guess the NBA will keep trying to catch the falling knife in 2027.

- Collin Morikawa took home the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am crown. Morikawa and last week’s champ Chris Gotterup secured victories despite having negative strokes gained putting. Speaking of putting, did you notice the Sotheby’s “for-sale” sign behind the 11th green. Here’s the listing: 3426 17 Mile Drive. $27m for those not clicking the link. Rather gauche colonnades if you ask me! AND THE CURTAINS. Nice dirt though.

- I’ve added Fangraph’s top 100 MLB prospect list below. Fangraphs has the most detailed public scouting repository of MLB minor leaguers anywhere in the world. I highly recommend contributing to the site, but nearly all content is available for free. If you’re to read through the top 100, you might need 2-3 days. But it’s worth it, and will help you understand the game. Making a top 100 list nearly guarantees a big league call up. Doesn’t guarantee any success, but all of these guys have gotten past the dredges of the minors and displayed enough talent that some organization will take a flyer on them even if they hit a bump or two in the road. If you’re new to Fangraphs, read up on the scouting rationales and FV calculations. Do we have any Pirates fans? Because between Skenes and Griffin, you might actually win 90 games in 2028.

- I’m one chapter in to Chuck Klosterman’s Football thank you for asking. Confession: I’m not much of a Book Boy. My reading is almost strictly of the internet variety. As a writer (blogger? idk), I need to get my nose up in prose. I need influence, man. My sentences could be better. So I’m committing to the written word (reading it). Because I can’t criticize Morikawa’s short stick if I’m not willing to put the effort in myself and absorb some properly edited publications. Please send me recommendations.
